The Performance Verification Satellite (PVSAT), launched aboard South Korea’s Nuri rocket (KSLV-II) during its second mission, has successfully completed its mission. The satellite, which was launched on June 21, 2022, completed its primary mission of verifying the Nuri rocket’s payload deployment capabilities and additional tasks, such as deploying CubeSats and testing space technologies developed by domestic industries. The successful completion of these tasks provides South Korea with valuable “space verification heritage” for its space development technologies.
The satellite tested various technologies, including a thermoelectric battery developed by the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute, which continued to produce power without malfunctioning in space. This success makes South Korea the third country, after the U.S. and Russia, to develop such technology. The satellite also tested an S-band antenna and an attitude control moment gyro, contributing to the localization and advancement of space technology.
