Korea to Invest 480 Billion Won in Industrial AI Innovation

South Korea’s Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced it will invest approximately 480 billion won ($349.1 million) in 2025 to develop innovative products and services based on artificial intelligence (AI). Major investment areas include AI factories (62.7 billion won), AI chip technologies (21.6 billion won), and autonomous driving technologies (120.6 billion won). Additional funding is allocated to advanced bio projects (68 billion won), intelligent robot development (29.6 billion won), and display technology advancements (13.8 billion won). The government aims to develop foundational AI models for SMEs to use in manufacturing, such as quality inspection and precision control, and to create AI models for predicting and preventing impurities in the bio industry. The ministry will also focus on developing key AI components like semiconductors and sensors. Emphasizing Korea’s status as the world’s fourth-largest manufacturing powerhouse, the ministry pledged to expand investment to secure a competitive edge in industrial AI.
