Korea Signs MOU to Join the International Square Kilometre Array (SKA) Project

On May 27, the Korea Aerospace Administration announced it had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Square Kilometre Array Observatory (SKAO) to participate in the SKA project. The SKA project, with a total budget of approximately 3 trillion KRW, aims to build the world’s largest radio telescope in Australia and South Africa. Korea will invest 34.5 billion KRW and, through this MOU, has acquired a status equivalent to SKAO member countries, enabling the dispatch of domestic experts and industrial participation. If Korea obtains full membership, it will gain voting rights in major SKAO decisions. The Korea Aerospace Administration expects this participation to expand Korea’s global research and industrial collaboration and contribute to research on the origins of the universe.
