Google’s TPU Reshapes the Landscape: Samsung and SK Establish HBM ‘Duopoly,’ Excluding Micron

HBM Market Shift: The rapid rise of Google’s AI chip, the Tensor Processing Unit (TPU), is creating a new significant demand axis for High Bandwidth Memory (HBM) outside of the Nvidia GPU market.

Korean Dominance: South Korea’s Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix are projected to form a “two-strong system” (duopoly) in the HBM market for TPUs, leveraging their overwhelming production capacity (CAPA) and technological edge over Micron.

Supply Chain Leadership: SK Hynix is leading by supplying HBM3E to Google’s latest 7th Gen TPU, while Samsung is also expected to significantly expand its supply volume through foundry and HBM collaboration with Google.
